Josep Maria Llop Torné
Director of a UNESCO Chair
Architect from 1974, with a specialization in Urbanism, in the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB). He developed several experiences in the field of local urbanism management, particularly as Director of Lleida’s Urbanism (1979-1987), Director and Coordinator of Barcelona’s Urbanism, before having the Olympic Games in 1992 (1988-1991) and also as Director of Urbanism and Environment of Lleida (1991-2003). He was President of AAUC (Catalan Association of the urbanisms and towns planning architects of Catalonia) from 1989 to 2001.
Professor University of Lleida. Professor ESTAB (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and others Universities (Master’s and Postgraduate’s Courses). As Director of Urban Planning of Lleida 1995-2015, obtained the First Prize of Urbanism of Catalonia, granted by SCOT and sponsored by Generalitat de Catalunya. Gold medal 2010 from COAC for promoting the urbanism. At the moment he coordinates a Common Project of the Network URB-AL (Urbanization in Latin America) about “Urbanization Management and Control”, with the cooperation of six cities and CEPAL (Economic Commission for Latin America), about “Instruments of redistribution urban revenues”.
Finally now he directs one UNESCO CHAIR and the International Program of Work of the UIA (International Union of Architects), about CIMES or “Intermediate cities – Urbanization and Development”, from 1996 to 2021.
Develop the “base plan” methodology or the right to the plan as a right to the city.
