Marcos Edel Martinez-Montero (MSc, PhD) is a senior researcher (ORCID:0000-0003-4095-5410) at the University of Ciego de Avila (www.unica.cu, Cuba). Currently, Dr. Martinez-Montero is the General Director of the Bioplants Center (www.bioplantas.cu). He has more than 25 years of experience with research interest in plant cryobionomics and cryobiotechnology for long-term germplasm conservation. In general, he is interested in studying the connections between stability (genetic and phenotypic), and cryogenic/non-cryogenic factors to assist in the optimization, improvement and validation of cryopreservation protocols. Acted as visiting researcher and collaborator of funded projects in Cuban institutions and worldwide (e.g., Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom). Full Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences with more than 60 publications with skills and experience in the supervision of graduate students in plant biotechnology with emphasis on cryopreservation research.
